Best Time To Visit Uganda by Season

In most regions of Uganda, annual rainfall averages between 1,000 to 2,000 millimeters, with the rainy season and its duration varying across different areas. Generally, the long rains occur from April to June, while shorter rains can be expected between October and December. During these periods, it rarely rains all day; instead, brief, intense showers are typically followed by sunny weather.

In the Lake Victoria basin, expect higher humidity and frequent showers throughout the year due to significant water evaporation of up to 75-80%. Conversely, humidity is much lower in the rest of the country. The dry season spans from June to October and from December to March.

When planning your trip to Uganda, be sure to consider the different seasons to optimize your experience in Best Time To Visit Uganda.

What to Pack for Uganda Tours

For your Uganda wildlife safari, it’s best to pack casual and comfortable clothing. Since evenings and early mornings can be chilly, warm sweaters are recommended. Flat, comfortable sports or trekking shoes are ideal for walking safaris. Along with typical safari gear, we advise bringing warm clothes, such as a fleece or light woolen sweater and socks.

During the day, it can get quite hot, so don’t forget your sunglasses, high SPF sunscreen, and a sun hat with a small brim. Specialist trips, such as mountain climbing, require additional clothing and footwear. Many hotels, lodges, and camps have swimming pools, so be sure to pack swimsuits. Due to limited space in vehicles and light aircraft, we recommend keeping your luggage to a minimum.

Aim to pack your items into a small bag weighing no more than 15 kg, which is the luggage limit for local flights as specified by the airlines. Nearly all safari lodges and camps offer same-day laundry service.
