The Tarangire River runs through the park attracting a huge number of elephants, buffalo, giraffe and antelope, particularly in the dry season between June and October. It is not uncommon to see large herds of elephants roaming through Tarangire’s savannah grasses or taking shade under the odd looking “upside down trees” (baobab) that is dotted around the park. The park also boasts over 550 different bird species, the most diverse in Africa, including the Kori bustard, the heaviest flying bird in the world!
On late afternoon you’ll be transferred to Karatu for an overnight stay.

Karatu - Lake Eyasi

After breakfast, you’ll traverse the rough road from Karatu to Lake Eyasi. Lake Eyasi is a seasonal shallow endorheic salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. It is in northern Tanzania, south of the Ngorongoro highlands. You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy this tranquil environment and to absorb its natural setting.
You’ll arrive in the afternoon for a cultural interaction with the Tatoga tribe, a very interesting tribe. Our Tatoga guide at the village will lead the tour. You’ll explore the dry and rugged landscape area on foot, which is still inhabited by a small group of Bushmen, the Hadzabe or Watindiga. These tribes still live in bands, hunting with bows and arrows, gathering roots, tubers and wild fruits, just as humans did to survive 10,000 years ago.
Another interesting tribe in this area is the Datoga (also called the Barabaig or Mang’ati). Initially, they were exercising a lot of rivalry over grazing lands with the Maasai tribe.
After all the activities you’ll be transferred to the lodge/camp for an evening relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

The Crater is the world’s largest intact, un-flooded caldera. This haven provides a year-round home to wildebeest, zebra, eland and gazelle, along with Africa’s densest population of lion. The rainforests shelter elephant, mountain buck, buffalo, hyena and leopard.
Spend a full day game viewing and exploring the crater floor, stopping to picnic on the grasslands amidst the grazing herds. Return to the Lodge in Karatu for an evening relaxation followed with dinner and an overnight stay.

Lake Natron is the most important and regular breeding site for lesser flamingos in East Africa hosting up to 2 million of them during the breeding season.
